[edit] Come to Water's Garden on Wednesdays and to meet and talk with Beyond Today organizers and community members.

We'll be gathering native seeds, fixing the fence, and talking under the big oak tree about all our ideas, dreams, and plans. Bring food. See you 6pm-dark on Wednesdays.

[edit] Come to Water's Garden next Wednesday night, August 15th, to learn about Organic Mosquito Management.

August is the month that the city watches for West Nile in the mosquitoes and we hope they won't decide to spray. Help us ward off both West Nile and the Anvil spray. Come to Water's Garden at Sunnyside and Campbell at 7pm on August 15th to learn more and help us keep our neighborhood organic and healthy. Mark your calendar!

[edit] Urgent need for calls to save funding for the Community Care Program (CCP) for seniors

Dear neighbors. Beyond Today is part of the Sustainable Chicago coalition, where organizations advocating for healthcare, education, and public transit work together. We pledge to support each other's groups actions to build strength. We've been called upon to make some phone calls for a very important program providing essential services for seniors. Please take a moment to make a few calls and pass on this message to a few others. Below is the message sent to us by James Thindwa of Jobs with Justice. Please read this message and take a few moments if you can to make a few calls. Thank you so much. Julie Peterson, organizer for Beyond Today.---

Hello Friend, This is an urgent appeal. Our good allies at Access Living are in critical fight to protect the Community Care Program (CCP) for seniors from being slashed. The four legislative leaders are in the process of developing the State’s Budget . Rep. Feigenholtz informed Access Living that CCP has been cut by *$25 million. *

I am asking YOU to call the four legislative leaders on Thursday with the following message:

Fully fund the Community Care Program as proposed by Governor Blagojevich last February. No funding cuts to the Community Care Program, because seniors want to be in their own homes and not nursing homes.

Thanks. Please take the time. James Thindwa, Chicago Jobs With Justice
