Hi, my name is Katie and I'm an intern for an environmental and activist group in my neighborhood, Beyond Today. Besides all of the mainstream internet sites that enable communication and whatnot, I've never had a blog, and so here, I'd like to write about my experiences with this internship and to post any information that I learn. So far, I've attended the Healthcare Rally by Michael Moore, have been exposed and taught about native plants, seed collecting, restoration, etc. Thanks for reading this so far, I'll definitely be back to update soon =]

links to remember... us interns are playing around with youtube, a popular site for broadcasting and posting videos. these are just two links concerning WNV tests and info. a more formal page will be made with this information

Work Schedule for 7-10-07

-Called/updated BT contact list -Created primitive sign (join the work, join the harvest) -Practiced door-to-door -Did the door-to-door Omm project on the Pensacola block.

  • Got three new emails for both Beyond Today and the Riverbank Neighbors.
  • Got some experience and now feels comfortable to do more =]

I really want to thank everyone who helped us with our door-to-door adventure =] I honestly relieved that I finally went out tried it. I'm looking forward to continuing our work tomorrow!

so a lot of things has happened since i last wrote in this blog. ive attended my first green dinner (which wont be the last) and listened in on some very relevant and important conversations concerning food issues of all kinds. being able to sit and listen really helped me understand the importance of staying connected with your community and to fight for the better things in life. Mr. Leki brought up the fact that CPS is trying to demolish the fieldhouse, the symbol of community, love, safety and happiness to the community garden and the school. being a graduate of 2004 from waters elementary, i personally refuse to see such an undertaking. im planning on making a scene by getting in contact with old grammar school friends and alumni and to see what we can do as a group together.

the last three days of interning goes as follows:

7-18-07 -gathered for bobbys retablo ceremony...meant to document but unfortunately postponed due to rain.

7-17-07 -went door to door along the perimeter of the waters school area. -made a physical copy of the upcoming GreenZINE in which the bt interns are working on.

7-16-07 -started to analyze/rewrite water article from the ny times (must yet be posted) -brainstormed/created draft of the bt intern GreenZINE

i dont know if anyone is reading this, but if you are, be sure to have a great day =] ill be back soon!

Work schedule 7-18-07 -got rained out for retablo ceremony =[

7-19-07 -tried to map out goals and basic priniciples of beyond today and internship.

7-23-07 -updated section of calendar

7-24-07 -created Waters Alumni Yahoo group -delivered oil of eucalyptus repellents to residents on pensacola -attended Waters School Community meeting. Discussed budget-cuts and fieldhouse issues.

7-25-07 -collected native seeds at Bunker Hill

7-26-07 -Helped organize and map out plans for the GreenFest on 8/4.

Alright, so I have to start really focusing on what needs to be done. Creating a Yahoo Group and Wiki Page for Waters Alumni will hopefully broadcast the fact that such a thing exists. I need to contact maybe one or two more people who wouldnt mind helping me reach out to the alumni of my class (2004). Other than that, I ought to work on the Bottle vs. Tap' article and create a page on biodiesel. Totally unrelated to environmentalism, I need to complete my AP econ hw tonight

To any who's reading....hope you're doing well =] peace.
