Oddly enough, many common practices make it hard for birds to survive in Chicago. The Bird Friendly Garden Project is in development with Audobon and the Chicago Ornithological Society as part of the Chicago Bird Agenda. (need links)

We'll be promoting some easy ways to invite the birds back to Chicago!

  • plant the plants they like that are native
  • don't use chemicals, pesticides kill the bugs they need to eat and herbicides and other chemicals may cause other health concerns as of yet unstudied (like DDT did)
  • Ask your neighbors to support your bird garden by also refraining from pesticide and herbicide use and using some of the same plants.
