2-4 pm* Meeting Place Waters School Garden (Sunnyside and Campbell near Lincoln Square)

Nance Klehm has been foraging urban areas and particularly Chicago for medicines, foods and seeds for several years. She believes that urban foraging is a wonderful way to connect directly to all urban land whether managed forest, coddled backyards, heavily trafficked public parks, lonesome transportation ways and so-called vacant lots.

Come curious and with a few paper bags learn about what plants are sharing this city with you!

Urban forage walks usually last 2 hours and donations typically range from $10-$20

Please RSVP to Lynn lpeemoeller@gmail.com - feel free to circulate

August 15. Beyond Today: Organic Neighborhood Event in the Garden

Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 7pm at Sunnyside and Campbell The Beyond Today community is hosting an event to draw public attention to the important issue of organic mosquito management. The event will take place in Waters School Organic Community Garden. We'll have a short lesson in Organic Mosquito Managment (our OMM Project) (dump standing water and wear repellent) and then spread out with cameras and clipboards to go to the place where there was a giant cesspool of standing water on Western.

We'll flyer the blocks surrounding the standing water with our "dump standing water" flyer. A representative from the city's Department of Public Health will be there to explain the way the city monitors mosquitoes for West Nile and what we have to do if we want to prevent the mosquitoes which can carry West Nile and trigger the pesticide spray response from the city. Please join us on Wednesday.

We'll return to the garden afterwards for a foraged salad, iced tea, and otherwise potluck social event. Please RSVP if you can come. We need good numbers. We'll have Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus repellent (smells good!) to distribute for a $10, $5, or $0 donation to neighborhood residents. Supplies are limited! :) see you Wednesday!
